OVE 56,000 AFFECTED BY THE PREVAILING DROUGHT

The Disaster Management Center says that more than 56,000 people have been affected by the prevailing drought.

The  Assistant Director Pradeep Kodippili said that people in Kegalle, Puttlam, Vavuniya, Jaffna and Kandy have been adversly affected due to dry weather conditions.

In the meantime, wildfires has also increased with the dry weather.

A program will be implemented at Divisional Secretariat level to provide relief to the affected people.

The Met Department stated that the dry weather could continue in the next few weeks.
