GOVERNMENT STATES THAT THE REPORTS ABOUT ARJUN MAHENDRAN FROM SINGAPORE CANNOT BE ACCEPTED



The SL Government states that the statements made by the media in Sri Lanka regarding  Arjuna Mahendran the former Central Bank Governor are not acceptable as the statements from the Government of Singapore.

The Presidential media stated that a report published by the Sri Lankan media had been completely out of the question, citing a report published by the Singapore Foreign Ministry spokesman.

Arrangements have been made to provide the necessary information to Arjuna Mahendran's request for extradition to Sri Lanka, the Ministry of External Affairs stated.

However, the Presidential media unit has said that the Singapore Government has not given any official statement to the authorities regarding the statement made by the President regarding Arjuna Mahendran.

The announcement states that the Government of Sri Lanka has made an official request at diplomatic level on the 28th of May last year to extradite Arjuna Mahendran to the country.

According to the Presidential Media Unit, the Ministry of External Affairs of Singapore has informed the Secretary of the Ministry of Defense and the relevant authorities  that the Attorney General has focused on the request made by them.

During the official visit to Singapore the President Maithripala Sirisena has requested the Prime Minister of Singapore to extradite Arjuna Mahendran to SL. According to the Presidential Media Unit the request was made on the basis of the red warrant issued by international police.
